Vacation is the time for you to get rid of all that stress and spend time with your loved ones. But there are things that can hinder your vacation if you aren’t careful. You must have put a lot of effort in planning that vacation, but the smallest mistake can spoil all the fun.
Taking these simple precautions will help you keep the fun alive.
Don’t let the ‘sun-burn’ you
Sunburn is a very common vacation spoiler. Especially if you are on a tropical vacation or ski trip, remember that the sun rays can reflect off the water and the snow and cause sunburn. It can end your fun, since you will have to stay inside with tender, blistered and swollen skin. So, use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of atleast 30 to reduce the risk of a sunburn while you travel. And remember to reapply before the affects wear out by keeping track of the time. Don’t fall asleep lounging by the pool or on the beach. You can wear protective clothing and also stay in the shade from 10 am to 4 pm because that’s when the sun rays are the strongest.
Prevent travellers diarrhea
If you are travelling abroad, then you are at risk of developing travellers diarrhea which is usually caused by contaminated food or water. So, remember to stay away food and beverages from unhygienic establishments. If you find it unclean, if your gut says so, listen to it. Especially if you have a sensitive stomach, you may want to avoid the food from street vendors and eat only fully cooked meat and seafood. Consume bottled water and beverages and eat fruits and vegetables that you peel yourself or that are served fully cooked.
Do not overeat
The vacation spirit can tempt you to indulge in food more than back home. For some people, this is a problem. Enjoy the local foods but make sure to keep your calories in check. Do not overeat which can make you feel uncomfortable and guilty in the end. Indulge in small samples of high-calorie dishes and make sure you are eating at regular mealtimes.
That vacation spirit can definitely get you drinking more than usual too. But remember that the next morning will leave you paying for it in the form of a hangover. Some symptoms can be headaches, fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, appetite changes, and also sensitivity to sound, light and movement. If you really want to avoid all this, the best way is to reduce alcohol intake and rather stay hydrated with non-alcoholic beverages. Stick to one drink an hour and sip on clear alcoholic beverages such as gin or vodka.
